Dear Hollywood...

It’s me again, Jay. Your Ginger boyfriend? You know, the guy you’ve been seeing for over 20 years? I feel like we haven’t really had a good chance to talk for a while and I really need to get something off my chest. This year has been hard for me to get excited to rush out to the theatre to see what you’ve got for me. It’s been a pretty rough year. Seriously, I think my favorite film of the year so far is Much Ado About Nothing and you had nothing to do with it. In fact, it seems like Much Ado was made in spite of you. I know we all have rough patches, and usually I’d forgive you during that January-February period of the year… but it’s July already…

and well…

Hollywood we need to take a break. It’s you, not me. Seriously, you need to get yourself in order. This steady stream of reboot after sequel after sequel after sequel trying to be a reboot after sequel is ridiculous. These last couple months are supposed to be your best! What happened to the glorious summers we used to have together? Those times when you’d show me movies like (500) Days Of Summer and then District 9. When I could go see Inception one month and then Scott Pilgrim the next? You keep changing Hollywood and it’s not getting better. To show you how serious I am, I will continue to not pay to see a movie from you. Work on your stuff Hollywood, and we’ll talk again in August after I see Elysium.

Be strong,
Jay Runham
